About the event
Allied Arts and the Georgia College Music Department have teamed up to bring the community Jazz at the Magnolia. The event was initially conceived as an opportunity to feature regional jazz artists alongside our local talent, GCSU faculty and students in concert. It has also provided educational outreach with clinics, workshops and jazz chats for those jazz enthusiast, students and the surrounding community interested in the American art form known as jazz. Jazz at the Magnolia (fondly named after the famous Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, has featured local artists/groups such as Melvin Jones Quartet, Louis Heriveaux(piano), Karla Harris(Vocals) and Tyrone Jackson (Piano). Recently it is expanded to include more national artists such as Trineice Robinson-Martin (vocal) and Leonard Foy (trumpet). As we enter our sixth year, we are making plans to expand the event to include other art forms that draw their inspiration from Jazz and related musical forms to create a festival atmosphere.
The 6th annual event featuring trombonist Bill Gibson will take place on Saturday September 14, 2024 at the Magnolia Ballroom in downtown Milledgeville on the Georgia College Campus. Tickets are $20 each and include refreshments; tickets can be purchased at milledgevillealliedarts.com or by visiting the Marlor House at 201 N Wayne St, Milledgeville. This event supports Milledgeville Allied Arts and Georgia College and State University programming and scholarships.
