Named after the Bill Monroe, “The Father of Bluegrass Music,” Monroe Crossing has been a favorite of bluegrass fans for seventeen years. The internationally acclaimed group returns to Allen’s Market for the fourth time on January 22. At 7:30 PM in Allen’s Market, the band will perform original compositions as well as classic bluegrass pieces.
Monroe Crossing was formed after the five members met through the music of Bill Monroe. The group Derek Johnson (guitar and lead vocals), Lisa Fuglie (fiddle, mandolin, guitar, and lead vocals), Matt Thompson (mandolin, fiddle, and harmony vocals), Mark Anderson (bass and bass vocals), and David Robinson (banjo, dobro, harmonica, and harmony vocals).
Monroe Crossing has performed in venues across the country, as well as Canada, Europe, and South Korea. The group was invited to perform at the 2007 and 2014 International Bluegrass Music Association “World of Bluegrass” Convention, and have twice performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Monroe Crossing was inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame in 2007, and was awarded the “Bluegrass Album of the Year” by the Minnesota Music Academy in 2003.
The group has recorded sixteen CDs, including a Christmas album, and covers of classic bluegrass hits. Monroe is one of the most active and most entertaining acts on the bluegrass scene today.
